about

Closing the door that Pavement opened with their seminal single "Cut Your Hair" and subsequent album "Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain," Modern Youth Impressions wave goodbye to the romance of recording, producing and finishing a record in one's basement. Indie Rock is as establishment as the form of alternative rock that it originally protested and underground music today bares absolutely no resemblance to the "lo-fi" music that began in the 90s. "Music Scene is crazy/ bands start up/ each and every day" sings Stephen Malkmus on "Cut Your Hair." Modern Youth Impressions are the last of those bands, and instead of running bravely into the future, they have holed themselves in a basement, and shudder to face the light.
Recorded on an iPhone, From an iPhone6 is slightly higher in production value than Bee Thousand by Guided by Voices. The spastic drumming of Spaul Applebutt melds together with the distorted noodling of guitarist Sapporo, while the two's sleep-deprived "studio" banter creates an atmosphere of looseness.
